BRIGHT EYES / Digital Ash In A Digital Urn [2005]

Critics darling Connor Oberst (aka Bright Eyes) breaks from his indie-folk mold to produce more of an electronic sounding record for Digital Ash In A Digital Urn.
Sticking to his trademark fresh out of high school lyrical mopiness, Oberst manages to craft some impressive songs here that channel shades of David Bowie and The Cure. With a handful of 5 star songs Digital Ash is unfortunately filled up with mostly 2 star material. Had he shaved off 3 or 4 songs, Oberst would have a pretty solid experimental album on his hands.
With any luck he'll try at this sound again because it sounds like he was onto something good.
