Creepsome gospel alt-country loonies Those Poor Bastards push their creative side on the 2012 concept album, Behold The Abyss.
Telling the gruesome story of an 1800's cloven-hooved cannibal on the hunt for a werewolf, the album is coupled with a companion penny novel, The Terrible Tale of Edgar Switchblade, written by Bastards frontman Lonesome Wyatt. The masterfully told lyrical story is complimented with their unique distorted twang that sounds like it's haunted by the tortured ghosts of Nick Cave & Tom Waits.
It's sick, twisted and ever so beautiful and entertaining in it's own dark way.
